Older homes around Main Street and Lott Park, along with the historic Malbis area, were built before central air was common, and many have been added onto more than once. These homes often have unusual layouts with little attic space, so a ductless mini split can make more sense for additions, sunrooms and converted garages than extending old ductwork.

Newer homes are tighter and more efficient, but builder-grade equipment still needs regular care. Capacitors are the part we replace most often in these homes. Recently we diagnosed a Daphne system that had stopped cooling and replaced its broken capacitor, and on another call we repaired the wiring at the outdoor condenser, including the capacitor connections and the condenser fan wires. Daphne AC and heating questions
Why does my AC drain keep clogging?
Daphne’s humidity means your AC pulls a lot of water out of the air, and algae can grow in the condensate line. When it clogs, a float switch may shut the system off or water may back up into the pan. Clearing the line and adding a cleanout makes it easier to keep flowing.
Our AC works, but the house feels sticky. Can that be fixed?
Yes, often. A sticky house can mean the system is oversized and short cycling, the fan is set to “on” instead of “auto,” or the coil is dirty. We can check run times and airflow and talk through dehumidification options if needed.
My heat pump is blowing cool air in heat mode. Is it broken?
Heat pump air feels cooler than a furnace, and the unit runs defrost cycles in cold weather. If the air is truly cold for long stretches or the outdoor unit is covered in ice, the reversing valve, defrost control, or refrigerant charge may need attention.
